You don't fight the body's lowest point. You wait it out.

At 4 am, the body is at its lowest point of the day. Core temperature falls to its minimum and alertness follows. Reflexes slow down: at 100 km/h, half a second is 14 metres. Between 2 and 6 am, sleepiness-related crashes are the most frequent. It is not weakness, it is the body's rhythm, and the body is right.

What helps

The low point passes on its own, but it passes with time, not with willpower: the only thing that shortens it is sleep. If you are on the road at this hour, the useful choice is to stop and sleep, not to arrive sooner. Coffee and an open window move the feeling, not the state of the body.

The video explained

5 scenes, with notes and sources
0:00 · The road

At 4 am, the body is at its lowest point of the day.

Alertness follows a 24-hour rhythm that does not depend on willpower: around 4 it reaches its lowest point. On an empty road the body makes no exception.

0:07 · Temperature

Core temperature falls to its lowest point. Alertness falls with it.

During the night core temperature drops by about half a degree and reaches its minimum between 4 and 5. Alertness follows the same curve: the dashboard cannot see it, the body can.

0:14 · The metres

Reflexes slow down. At 100 km/h, half a second means 14 metres.

At 100 km/h you cover 28 metres every second. Half a second more to react, and braking starts 14 metres further on: the length of three cars.

0:22 · The hours

Between 2 and 6 am, sleepiness-related crashes are most frequent.

Sleepiness-related crashes cluster between 2 and 6, when traffic is lightest. Stopping at a rest area is the choice the body is asking for.

0:29 · The person

It is not weakness. It is the body's rhythm, and the body is right.

It is neither weakness nor distraction: it is physiology. Stopping and resting is the right answer, not a failure.

Reported, not yet resolved

  • EN line 6 «The absolute minimum is not fought. It is waited out.» A double passive with no agent, in a closing line. Not a grammar mistake but a choice of style: the English copywriter decides, not the test. On 28.09.2026 George Zisa chose the active form: «You don't fight the body's lowest point. You wait it out.» It goes in when the 4 am video is remade.
  • DE line 2 I had changed «Wachheit» to «Wachsamkeit» on one plate, thinking I was repairing an inconsistency. Checking every field, I found that «Wachheit» appears thirteen times in the German, always in the same sense: it is the chosen term for the curve, not a slip. Changing it on a single plate created the inconsistency rather than removing it, and I have put it back. The real question stands: Italian, French and English say vigilanza, vigilance, alertness; German says Wachheit, which is the state of being awake. If it changes, it changes in all thirteen places, and that is a decision of direction and of science, not of language.
