Narcolepsy and hypersomnias are Lammers' field, between the Leiden clinic and the SEIN centre. But at the forum the question is another one: should sleepiness at the wheel be talked about outside the clinic too?
The risk is not only the patients'
At the forum, Lammers widens the view: on the road, the sleep habits of healthy people weigh more - a much larger group than those with a diagnosis under care.
It's probably more that healthy people with bad sleep behaviors are at risk on the road than just the patients.
Informing is preventing
Many people do not know that their sleep affects safety: raising awareness is the first step, for patients and for everyone else.
